After visiting multiple flood relief camps across Sribhumi and Hailakandi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday addressed the media at the Sribhumi District Commissioner's office.
He assured flood-affected residents of immediate government assistance, rehabilitation support, and long-term flood mitigation measures. His visit aimed to boost morale and review on-ground disaster response operations.
During the press conference, the Chief Minister made a major infrastructure announcement: a four-lane highway connecting Silchar and Sribhumi is in the pipeline. Terming it a “transformative project,” Sarma said the new route will accelerate connectivity and development across the Barak Valley.
The announcement has sparked hope among locals for faster economic growth and better road infrastructure in the region.
