Assam launches entrepreneurship support scheme for women

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched Assam's largest women empowerment scheme, Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMMUA), in Behali, offering ₹10,000 seed capital to 30 lakh women.

The scheme aims to boost self-employment and support women-led businesses. Successful entrepreneurs will receive ₹25,000 in the second year and ₹50,000 in the third. The government will bear bank loan interest. Over 27 lakh SHG members are set to benefit, with ₹1,090 crore already disbursed.

An e-commerce platform is also being developed. In the first phase, 23,375 women received cheques, marking a major step toward financial independence for Assam's women.
